This movie is based on a true story and is meant to set an example for all different races and people, who then and now, suffer from war, loss, flight and displacement. This movie plays in Poland because no other country lost such a large part of its population during the Second World War. (Every fourth Pole was killed). Furthermore, about 12 million Polish people left their country for a new home in a foreign land because of World War II, the Communist dictatorship that followed and the declaration of Martial Law in 1981. This story reflects upon the desire of every emigrant, to at least once in their life, travel back to the places of their youth and say good bye to it all. In addition the movie shows a general desire of all people to say good-bye in the twilight years of life. Since this movie project is a German/Polish co-production, not only the content of the movie but also the common work amongst the young filmmakers from Warsaw and Berlin sets an example for a better and more peaceful communication between cultures and nations. |
